Known professionally as
"Timo", Mr. Martin was an opera singer whose baritone voice had entertained
thousands of U.S. troops as a GI performer in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and the
Philippines. Mr. Martin also performed with the National Opera Company in
Washington, D. C., and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. He was also an
artist who won several awards for his sketches and paintings. For example, in April,
1937, he won a drawing competition sponsored by Tennessee State University (at that time
called Tennessee A & I University), the Tennessee State-wide High School
Symposium. |
